A BLACK MAN'S PAIN I
Miz Author T is an Excellent Writer and Storyteller!!! A Black Man's Pain is the perfect outline of what so many of our black men have faced for years growing up. The Author managed to Bring you into the World of Ervin (the main character) and show you the good, bad, and ugly of his upbringing. It’s not too often we are able to read books that show what many black men have dealt with from abandonment, dysfunction and More! This book shows you how dysfunction can stay with you for years if you allow it, and don’t get the help and support that you need. This story leaves you speechless, but also encouraged. Well Done Author Teresa Browning aka Miz Author T.
"Dysfunctional families are everywhere you look but we have to stop and break the mold, so it doesn't slip down to the next generation." This was an awesome book that presents a common trend in black communities- harboring secrets in the cycles that continue with no healing. I could see myself in some of the situation. Ervin experienced a lot in his life. I loved the relationship he had with his grandparents. They provided stability and a strong foundation for him-unconditional love. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I think any person in need of reconciliation of some past unsolved hurts and memories should read this. Warning of the sexual scenes! This book will make u laugh, think, and cry all at the same time.
It will make you look at a man's actions differently. The book points out that "no one had room to judge anyone unless they judged themselves first."
Talk about an awesome book, this one is over the top with plenty of twists to keep a reader engrossed within its pages. I really don't know where to start. I found myself continuously connecting with the characters on a personal level and at certain times wondered if the story was actually talking about my life. The other reviewer is absolutely right, this read certainly made me laugh, made me mad as hell, caused me to look around to see if anyone was watching during the love scenes and broke me down to tears. It has been a very long time since I have read a book that invoked all these feelings in one read. I don't think I could've taken the abuse Ervin went through, but he was very strong to stand on his beliefs and not let the evil take control of him. A very powerful message to everyone that there are plenty good men in the world. It's time we see them individually for who they truly are inside and stop grouping them all together when the one we're with decides to act like a jack***. Another warning! Look out for that little guy that keeps talking to Ervin. LOL Great Book!
WHY I KEPT MY PAST A SECRET
I read this book in a day and a half, once I started I could not put it down. This book is a true example of the old saying, "you never miss what you have until it's gone." Ryan thought that he could speak to Ronda in a negative manner and she would accept it, I am glad Ronda realized she deserved better. The author did an excellent job of explaining why Ronda did the things she did as a mother first and a woman second. A lot of women would say I wouldn't take that off of him, but you can never say what you would or wouldn't do, until you are in the situation. I was glad that Ronda was strong enough to leave Ryan and not go back. I am looking forward to a sequel. Ronda was indeed a strong woman.
This book was the best book I ever read outside the bible. I cried, laugh I got mad and so many more feelings came out of me while reading it. I think the author went through things that showed me there is hope for me because some of the same things she went through I also have gone through and if she was strong enough to get through what she went through and write about it .The small things in my life, After reading this book let me know there is hope for me and others like me. Thank you, Mrs. Browning for writing this book I hope there is another Giant to follow.
Most of my life I would only read the bible, but a friend told me about this book and how much she like reading it, so I had to buy it because she would not let me read hers because it was so easy to read she is now reading it for the third time. I said this can't be true, but was I wrong I started reading it and could not put it down it's all she said it was and more. I say to anyone that have not read this book is missing out on the Giant in books. But, it should have a warning on it: Don't plan anything before reading it because when you start it will lock you in for hours. Mrs. Browning don't leave us hanging tell us more.
The next thing I would like to see it as a Broadway play about this book. I would like to someday meet you. Thank God for grandmothers like yours.
Teresa Browning did an awesome job of introducing us to the main character, Rhonda. I remained riveted as I followed the life of Rhonda -her struggles, pain, disappointment, abandonment, love, and triumphs. She overcame each challenge and never lost sight of whose she was. Throughout the book Rhonda acknowledged that she knew that God was watching over her although she was not ready to commit herself fully to Him. We followed her as she dealt with physical and emotion abuse, a broken marriage - all while struggling to raise her four children. The book serves as a source of healing, allowing the reader to come to grips with the many secrets we have hidden in our private spaces and then finding the strength to rid ourselves of those demons.
The book is an easy read - in the first person - not complicated with Rhonda's story being told through the voices of different characters. It’s a must-read, one you will enjoy reading and want to pass onto your family and friends.
